Guido’s Report On The Instant Pot 7-In-1 Multifunction Cooker
Instant Pot has crammed a tremendous amount of uses into a single product. Pressure cooker, Slow cooker, Rice Cooker/Porridge Maker, Steamer, Sauté/Browning, Yogurt Maker & Warmer. It scores high with people in almost every category with the notable exception of rice cooker. Some people have found the rice tends to stick to the stainless steel. It’s an issue that can be managed by adding some oil in the cooking process, but not everyone wants to do that. In my opinion it’s a small price to pay. Add to that the saute feature and the Instant Pot immediately gives you options a standard slow cooker can’t. That’s a real plus.

The display is simple and easy to read. The presets will either work as programmed or can be adjusted at the push of a button. There are two settings for pressure cooking – high and low. The high setting hughly reduces cooking times while the low setting helps prevent overcooking delicate items. 3 different saute and slow cook temperatures cover a range of applications. On the slow cooker setting you can adjust the cook time from 30 minutes up to 20 hours.
A nice feature for those who want to delay the cooking start is also a feature. You can set the delay timer up to 24 hours ahead. There are 2 different keep-warm setting – manual and automatic. The automaic switches on when a cook time is complete and stays on for up to 10 hours. If you do it manually, you can keep-warm up to 99 hours and 50 minutes!
Like almost everything these days, it’s manufactured in China, but the company is located in Ottawa, Canada. The cooking pot is made of Food Grade 304 (18/8) stainless steel (that’s good) with a 3-ply bottom for even heat retention and distribution. The lid fits snugly and locks tight for pressure cooking.
For ease of use, the Instant Pot 7-In-1 Multifunction Cooker has 14 different microprocessor controlled programs. You can choose from: Soup, Meat/Stew, Bean/Chili, Poultry, Sauté, Steam, Rice, Porridge, Multigrain, Slow Cook, Keep-Warm, Yogurt, Pasteurize and Fermented Rice (Jiu Niang).
The Instant Pot 7-In-1 Multifunction Cooker comes in both 6 and 5 quart sizes. It’s a round pot, so certain shapes of roast or bird won’t fit as nicely as the oval shape you’ll find some other slow cookers allow. I really think 6 quarts is the way to go as I’d rather have the option to make a little more. Hey, I get hungry!
The pot is stainless steel, comes out with ease and is dishwasher safe. If you’ve browned your food and have fond (the delicious brown stuff that forms on the bottom of a pot or pan during the browning process) left over, I saw a novel idea for cleaning. Turn it to saute and add a little wine and/or stock or water. Deglaze and you’ve got a nice sauce to go with your meal instead of washing it away and losing that tasty goodness.
Pressure cookers have come a long way since the exploding messes that hurt the technique’s reputation in the 1970’s. The Instant Pot 7-In-1 Multifunction Cooker has 10 separate safety mechanisms and is both UL and ULC certified.
Below are the specs for both the 6quart and 5 quart versions (IP-DUO60 and IP-DUO50 respectively).

“Yogurt” function: up to 99 hours 30 minutes. “Normal” mode for making yogurt: 36 ~ 43°C (96.8 ~ 109.4°F); “Less” mode for making Jiu Niang (fermented glutinous rice): 30 ~ 34°C (86 ~ 93.2°F); “More” for pasteurizing milk: ~83°C (~180°F).

The Instant Pot 7-In-1 Multifunction Cooker comes with a 1 year limited warranty that covers defects in workmanship and material. No real surprises there. Pretty standard. They do want to see a copy of your original receipt so scan and save or store it somewhere you’ll be able to find it if needed. Assuming the problem is covered under the warranty, the manufacturer will replace, repair, or help you repair the unit.

If you bought high quality specialized pots for each of the functions The Instant Pot 7-In-1 Multifunction Cooker does, I’m sure you’d find they outperformed it in their specialized way – but you’d have 7 different units cluttering your kitchen. If space is an issue, this is a solid solution. On top of that, it’s pretty easy to use. As a plus, along with the manual and quick reference guide, there’s a pressure cooking booklet that includes cooking time tables, too.
At this price point, it’s hard not to see the value – Guido
